Seasonal Health Note: Travel and DVT

With summer holidays upon us, many of us will be travelling for longer periods. It's a timely reminder to be aware of the risks of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), especially on long-haul flights or extended car journeys. We have seen an increase in patients presenting with DVT recently. Remember to stay hydrated, stretch your legs, and move around whenever possible to promote healthy circulation.

Case Study
Persistent Lateral Knee Pain in a 26-Year-Old Male

A 26-year-old male presented with persistent right lateral knee pain. Initially referred by Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM) for rehabilitation with a provisional diagnosis of iliotibial band (ITB) syndrome. The physiotherapist was not convinced of this diagnosis and referred the patient for further imaging.
An MRI confirmed the true cause: a lateral meniscal tear and a 14mm osteochondral defect (OCD). The patient underwent surgery in November 2024 to repair the damage. He then began an intensive, targeted rehabilitation program with our team.
We were incredibly proud to see him successfully complete a multi-day cycling event in the Pyrenees, completely free of any symptoms. A follow-up MRI this June showed the graft had healed completely. It’s a fantastic result that underscores the importance of getting the right diagnosis from the start.
